1. Zero Tolerance Policy
SRM University Sonepat Delhi-NCR maintains a strict zero-tolerance approach toward ragging in any form. This policy is in accordance with the UGC Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009, as well as relevant state laws. Our institution is committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and harassment-free environment for all students to pursue their academic goals with dignity and respect.
2. Definition of Ragging
Ragging includes but is not limited to the following acts:
- Any conduct by a student or students that causes, induces, compels, or forces another student to do any act which adversely affects the physical or psychological well-being of such other student
- Asking students to perform acts that cause shame, embarrassment, or humiliation
- Any act of financial extortion or forceful expenditure burden put on a student
- Physical abuse including sexual abuse, homosexual assaults, stripping, forcing obscene and lewd acts, gestures
- Verbal abuse, mental or psychological harassment, threats or intimidation
- Preventing access to classes, facilities, or university services
- Any activity that causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship, physical or psychological harm
3. Anti-Ragging Committee
The University has established an Anti-Ragging Committee and Squad responsible for:
- Maintaining vigilant oversight to prevent instances of ragging
- Conducting regular and surprise inspections in hostels, canteens, buses, and other locations vulnerable to incidents of ragging
- Investigating reported incidents promptly and thoroughly
- Recommending appropriate punitive action against those found guilty of ragging
- Creating awareness about the negative consequences of ragging
4. Preventive Measures
- Mandatory Anti-Ragging Undertaking: All students and their parents/guardians must submit signed anti-ragging undertakings at the time of admission/registration
- Awareness Programs: Regular orientation programs, workshops, and seminars to educate students about the ill effects of ragging
- Display Boards: Anti-ragging warnings and contact information for reporting incidents displayed prominently across campus
- Monitoring: CCTV surveillance in strategic locations and regular patrolling by security personnel
- Mentorship: Faculty mentors assigned to groups of freshers to provide guidance and support
5. Reporting Procedures
- 24/7 Helpline: Dedicated anti-ragging helpline number (1800-XXX-XXXX) operational round the clock
- Online Reporting: Web portal and email address (antiragging@srmsonepat.edu.in) for reporting incidents
- Physical Complaint Box: Complaint boxes installed at accessible locations across campus
- Direct Reporting: Students can directly approach any member of the Anti-Ragging Committee, faculty, wardens, or security personnel
- Anonymous Reporting: Option to report incidents anonymously to protect the identity of complainants
6. Disciplinary Actions
- Immediate Suspension: Students accused of ragging may be suspended pending investigation
- Expulsion: Confirmed involvement in ragging may result in expulsion from the institution
- Debarring from Examinations: Students may be debarred from appearing in examinations
- Withholding Results: Results or degrees may be withheld
- Legal Action: Filing FIR with local police in serious cases as per state laws
- Financial Penalties: Imposition of appropriate fines
- Rustication: Removal from the institution for a specified period
7. Support for Victims
- Counseling Services: Professional psychological counseling for victims of ragging
- Academic Support: Special academic assistance if studies are affected
- Relocation Option: Option to change hostel room or accommodation if needed
- Confidentiality: Strict confidentiality maintained regarding victim's identity
- Follow-up Care: Regular follow-up to ensure the victim's well-being
8. Implementation and Review
This Anti-Ragging Policy is implemented with immediate effect and will be reviewed annually by the University Administration to ensure its effectiveness. All stakeholders including students, faculty, staff, and parents are responsible for supporting this policy and creating a ragging-free campus environment. SRM University Sonepat Delhi-NCR is committed to taking all necessary measures to prevent ragging and to deal promptly with any reported incidents.
